Third Time’s a Charm: Clockwork Film Partners with Mani Ratnam on ‘Thug Life’

Clockwork Film is proud to have joined forces on this summer’s most highly anticipated release, Thug Life. Marking a landmark reunion of director Mani Ratnam and superstar Kamal Haasan after more than three decades, the film also stars Silambarasan in a commanding lead role. Produced by Siva, Madras Talkies’ Producer, our fourth collaboration in Serbia, Thug Life promises to redefine the crime-drama genre when it arrives in theaters on June 5.

Last Saturday, the makers dropped the adrenaline-charged trailer, instantly electrifying fans worldwide. Spanning multiple decades, the preview plunges viewers into a violent, unforgiving underworld where shifting loyalties and brutal betrayals set the stage for a relentless power struggle. Families are torn apart, alliances fracture, and vengeance drives every action, all captured through Mani Ratnam’s signature blend of sweeping visuals and intimate character moments.

A significant portion of Thug Life was filmed on location in the rugged Stara Planina mountains of Serbia, lending the film an epic, almost mythic backdrop. This marks Clockwork Film’s third collaboration with Mani Ratnam and our fourth partnership with producer Siva and Madras Talkies in Serbia—testament to the strong creative synergy we’ve built over the years.
